How the hell and car this car go unregistered as damaged by insurers?

The driver probably died in this wreck and in 3 months time it will end up being sold to some poor soul as a pristine vehicle. The HPI checks etc will not show any different. The new owner will think he bought a bargain at £2000 below what the local dealer was asking for a similiar looking car. Then one day when it goes into the dealers to get one or two things fixed ........... it wouldnt have been recorded if it wasnt insured in the first place. the dvla recon that 25% of all cars on the road aint insured. and they cant all be bangers

Don't think so, there are TWO clear pole-type impact shapes at the A and B pillars, first thought was something more lamp-post shaped but they look like the impact was from the same angle and hence probably at the same time so the spacing is way too close together for lamp-posts. Trees of that diameter (6-8" at an estimate), wouldn't have had the strength necessary to inflict the regular damage impact shape you can see here - I'd say he hit a road-sign, but a big, substantial twin post one that didn't give much (the damage at the base of the pillars doesn't look like it rode up and over after impact, just stopped.

It certainly went off sideways into whatever it was, possibly heading slightly backwards at the time of impact looking at the pillar damage.

Anti-ram-raid pillars anyone???

Looking at the steering column or what's left of it that will almost certainly have been a fatal. The damage in that area though does not appear consistent with the sideways impact though?

And as for the 'may require a new body shell' comment! It looks like it'll require new everything! Darren Griffin

This seller is clearly having a bubble at the original owner's expense.... what the hell is he talking about? "May require a new bodyshell" - "LR have quoted £1500" - I doubt that very much. Almost worth emailing the seller to have a go at him Evil or Very Mad

Possibly damaged while removing the occupant, it looks to me it is now folded down around the upper UJ joint in the column but that doesn't mean that it was impact damage - as you say there is no evidence visible of a sideways impact to the column but the damage looks vertical - hence my reasoning it may be non-impact.

Can't see any blood either and there is plenty of survivable space between the seat and dash, very likely foot/lower leg injuries from pedals and the side impact to the footwell though. Cheers

1) A very sizeable steel chassis rail running along the side
2) Higher seating position
3) More survival space

It's interesting to see that RRS sport has never been put forward for crash testing but in the few collisions I have been to where one is involved they haven't performed as well as you might think. Certainly not as well as the D3's.

Pics do not look good! Glad Me & Missus are wrapped up in a couple of D3s, mind U RRS will be a hellova lot more survivable than most cars.

I've always thought it odd that there's never been a EuroNCAP rating for the RRS.... I wonder if it's because LR know it won't be very highly rated? The design isn't that old... it shouldn't be too embarrassing. Isn't the FL2 a 5 star car?

My opinion, and as I always seem to get into trouble for offering my opinion, I repeat, it is only my opinion, I think the D3 owner has no idea what he is talking about.

For one thing he does not seem to be aware that the RRS is built on a D3 shortened chassis. I don't imagine the seats are any lower in the RRS and I can't see that a sloping centre consul is going to restrict the survival place either.

Finally I am under the impression that the RRS HAS been crash tested and has a 4 star rating for the vehicle and 1 star for pedestrian safety. Gone - 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.
