driveshaft vibration

Message to all vibration through the drivechain suferers, had my vehicle at Hillendales this morning with Bill the head tech there & he admited to feeling / hearing the whoo, whoo, whoo through the wheel at 15oorpm under load. bad news is i collect car without issue fixed tomorrow, good news is he called LR techs 7 they admit to the torque convertor having problems & they are supposed to be issuing a tech bulliten in the next 2 - 3 weeks with an upgraded convertor, i am on the list to have it fitted when we here. i will let any interested party know the outcome.
has anybody else had the this convertor changed or heard that LR has agreed this is the problem?

If you look up transmission noise in Tech- Canaryman had problems with his vehicle
The main agents got LR technicians and people from ZF who manufacture the transmission and he had re-build transmission and the modified torque convertor- made no difference at all so don't hold your breath.
Good luck I hope it cures yours. Thumbs Up You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

Ohhhh yes, big time and here are some forums you should check out. I am the king of vibrations, had them all...steering, transmission and raspy chain....they all have different sources and reasons. Mine is also a 2005 RRS.

Start with http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic1995.html - this covers the steering vibrations, although there is a little confusion on the the two types of steering vibrations. One is a shimmy (wheel balance / steering rack issue) and the other is the dreaded "wha, wha, wha" and graunch through the steering wheel which I think is what you are suffering and what I had. Check page 3 of the above post for my post clarifying the two.

Then take a look at http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic4200.html which covers off all the bits that have been replaced on my car to sort out the driveline vibrations, including torque convertor (which was not the cause btw)

Basically;

1) My driveline vibration was largely due to a worn out spider gear and bearing in front diff. To find this out they replaced torque convertor, prop shafts, tyres, transmission, hubs.

2) The rasping in the auto transmission is a problem within the transmission which canaryman has doggedly pursued and is covered in http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic2725.html

3) Finally, the steering shimmy. This is covered in several posts and is due to flat spots on tyres and overly senstive steering rack. There is a tech note out on this which involves balancing on the Hunter Road Force Machine and if not succesful, steering rack replacement with a new damped steering rack.

Hope this helps. Happy to PM you any details on my car which may help your stealers and save you some time. RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

many thanks to all who replied, some very useful remarks here.
picked vehicle up this morning & questioned the reson for not just fitting a new torque convertor if LR said that was the fault. was told that the service bulliten would be out in 2 - 3 weeks from LR & until came out they could not fix the problem as it is now recognised as an official fault, & as this was the case LR techs had said they where awaiting the new convertor / part before releasing the bulliten. I am assured they will call me before end of May to fit this part.
they are a very good workshop in my experience & again they did all other small issues, wipper judder (replaced but i feel correctly not under warranty due to car being over 12mth old) but heavily discounted to compensate. Slight knock on steering when backing off drive (antiroll bar bolts not tight enough).
