If the cigar lighters function with the ignition off, then you could buy a lead to connect into that.
or the power socket in the boot.

or you just connect it straight to the battery terminals with that comfort lead with M8 eyelets

Does the link to ebay I posted work for you?

I did buy the cig lighter connector but been told the sockets all shut down when the car goes to sleep, the connector that came with it has m6 eyelets do these not fit ?

Does the socket in the boot also shut off ?

I've read on here that M8 is the size for the RR. I've not tried a M6. Give it a go!
If it don't fit, all you need to do is file the eyelet out a little.

Once you have it working, let me know if you want to sell your cigar adaptor.

just bought a Ctek 5.0 to keep my battery topped up through the winter as i do short journeys during the week, my question is with the charger i bought the cigarette lighter connector to charge through!! is this ok or should i connect a different way ??

Hello, I want to connect my Ctek 5.0 directly to the battery using the comfort connector ... Has anyone done this? As I am yet not too familiar with my new RRS, am I correct in assuming that the battery is under the spare wheel in the back?
Thanks

Hi, I assume you are referring to an L494 when you say "new" HSE. No model designation in your profile. This really helps when you are requiring assistance or information.

You are correct that both your batteries are in the boot. The main battery is beneath the spare wheel and the auxiliary battery (often mistakenly called the "stop/start" battery) is located behind the bulkhead on the offside of your load compartment.

In the engine compartment there are 2 battery terminals for charging/jump start facility. The positive (+) terminal is inside its own little plastic box to prevent shorting. Lift the lid of the box and the terminal post is visible.

Best connect a charger either using these terminals or via one of the plug sockets mentioned above. Whichever is most convenient.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Jock. Thumbs Up

Yes, it is the L494, built in May 2016, delivered last week. HSE 3.0 SDV6 Dynamic.

Are those terminals easily accessible, i.e. can I just use the small Ctek clamps, or should I just wire the comfort extension connection to those terminals?

What I am trying to do is to have a quick and easy plug & play for the Ctek, and thought the cigar lighter sockets would do the job ... As those are not life, I was thinking of hard wiring the one in the boot. I did the same with my BMW and worked perfectly: plug in the cigar lighter, leave the Ctek in the boot, and close everything safely ... But if the terminals are in the bonnet, and easily accessible, I could do the same, leaving the comfort connector somewhere in the bonnet.

Do you know if the L949 has a live cigar lighter somewhere? I recall the Defender did ...

Personally I just use the crocodile clips that came with the CTEK charger direct to the terminal posts in the engine compartment because it is convenient for me and the arrangement of the power sockets in the barn where I keep the car.

None of the cigarette lighter sockets are live from the factory, although my dealer did volunteer to make one permanently live if I required it. Must be a very simple job as there was no mention of a price for doing this (most unusual for a LR dealer)!!

Thanks Jock.

So that I get things right, to recap: I will use the clamps/crocodile clips on the terminal posts in the bonnet ... As I haven't opened the bonnet yet, is the terminal post easily visible? Where precisely? Any chance you can post a picture, obviously when convenient to you.

Alternatively, can you just tell me if there is a color, or a specific engine part... Or something that allows me to locate at first sight?

I recently bought a CTEC 5 charger. I have a 2011 RRS so can I connect the comfort wire to the battery and us that?
