A few questions please?

Hi all,

I would like to ask a few questions about various subjects on the RRS (apologies if this has been done previously?).

I am looking at buying a 2.7 TDV6 (probably a 06/56) and would like to know the following:

1. I have seen various topics on here and elsewhere about chipping or remapping. Which is best and what would the difference be in the process?

2. What is the usual price for each please?

3. Is remapping the same as blue-printing a car?

4. What is the change for things such as insurance and tax for the car? I have checked for chipping and it looks like it would only be a small increase?

5. Do dealers have an issue with the process and if so, why?

6. What kind of service interval is the norm? I currently have a BMW 3 series and it is about 15500 which is excellent.

7. What kind of price am I looking at for services at the dealer? I understand that there are various types as with all cars but please could I get an idea of them all? Tried to look on the net but can't find much out tbh.

Many thanks in advance,

Zaskar. Dipping my toe into the RRS world.

Chipping/Re-mapping is the same thing.

2. What is the usual price for each please?
Expect to pay between £400-£600

3. Is remapping the same as blue-printing a car?
No, Remapping is all done with electrickery magic within the ECU. Blueprinting is associated with engine rebuilds etc

4. What is the change for things such as insurance and tax for the car? I have checked for chipping and it looks like it would only be a small increase?
Does not affect RFL, and may or may not affect your insurance premiums. Whether you tell them or not is up to you

5. Do dealers have an issue with the process and if so, why?
Dealers have issues if your car is still under manufacturers 3yr warranty

6. What kind of service interval is the norm? I currently have a BMW 3 series and it is about 15500 which is excellent.
Service schedules are 15k miles/12 months for all pre 2010MY's

7. What kind of price am I looking at for services at the dealer? I understand that there are various types as with all cars but please could I get an idea of them all? Tried to look on the net but can't find much out tbh.
Find yourself a local independent specialist. Prices can be as little as a third of main dealer prices

I always understood it as remapping and chipping are two different forms of increasing performance on a motor. Confused
Chippng is a simple plug in and play... One map fits all.

Remapping is where your standard map is fine tuned to either your requirements or to produce the best performance out of your motor.

A tuning box is plug-and-play. To chip/remap, it has to be done via the OBD port Thumbs Up
