Rearview camera

I got the rearview camera from hids4u on the Disco3 forum.
Installation is quite easy, main job is pulling the wires, the power and round wires need to be extende a bit(1.3 m)
Unfortunately my GVIF is an old one, so no guiding lines available.

Here the camera, that replace one of the plates lights, fits snugly and you have to enlarge a bit the bulb holder hole a bit with a file.

Now the wiring, I drilled a small hole in the plastic trim to pull the wiring through the opening glass

Unfortunately there is no easy way to open the glass surround to pull the wires(on the disco you have plastic covers that can be removed) so I had to go the "dirty way, taping the wires around the window, let's see how long it hold, will think of a better solution later

Then pulled the wires through the roof, is easy to pull down the ceiling and route the wires

Then down the inside the side moulding.....

.....to the rear light, connect the wires to the reverse wire and to ground, also, connect a wire to the camera's power wire to go to the GFIF for it to automatically switch when reverse selected

pull the video wire and the power(for the GVIF) inside the boot side panel to the rear seat and under the sills cover to the LH seat were the GVIF is located

this is the final result

Have a lot of plasters available, you are going to need them Wink

I you mean how it wires up to the camera itself, well it just goes through the plastic cover at the bottom of the screen to the light holder, I will dismantle it and take a picture, but not today, it is snowing here. '08 RRS TDV8

flydive, did you ever get around to find a "cleaner" solution for the wires in the back window?
instead of the "dirty way, taping the wires around the window"?

Thanks

No, I did not, well actually I did not look for one yet, waiting for warmer weather Wink

The problem with the RRS is that the upper tailgate does not have a removable plastic surround like the Discovery.

For the time being the black duct tape is holding up Wink '08 RRS TDV8

Well, i did mine as well and was hoping i could pass the cables inside the tube (for lack of a better word) where all the existing cables go along the side of the window but it's just not going to happen...
it looks like that 'tube' is filled with something like rubber or silicon once the cables have been passed...

I ended up doing like you except i passed the wires in the rubber tube where the original harness goes.

And no plasters needed Thumbs Up
