Sat Nav Journey Time and Much longer route.

I have only had my RRS V8 a couple of days now so i am still messing with it. But it seems that sometimes the journey time for the sat nav can be way of. I still need to try it a bit more , but has anyone else found this? When i used a tom tom it was very accurate.

Also today i was trying the sat nav out to take me from work to home, which is 29miles with one main A road and really there is only one route you can take. But the sat nav was sending me along another A road that was 39 miles and showing as a quickest and shortest route. The bizarre thing was that the shortest route wasnt even an option, and the road has always been there.

Any ideas?

The Sat Nav usually offers you 3 routes to be broken down as follows:

1. Scenic
2. No Hassle
3. Loads of hassle

By viewing the map it will give you a rough incling as to the best route (dependant on your viewing in scale) - if i'm in a rush I choose Option 2....if not either 1 or 3 dependant on my mood Thumbs Up

To add, sometimes and I only mean sometimes, "the cloth eared bint" who provides guidance gets a teensy bit excited and extravegent for her own good and will try to take you off on some joy ride......I find a good shouting session at her rectifies the issue........oh sh*t no, thats the bint in the passenger seat, sorry Whistle Whistle Whistle .....in which case, just go with the flow Shocked My Gladiators:

Yeah, but, this A road was not an option. And this is by far the fastest and shorted route 10miles shorter and probably 10 mins minimum.

is the TMC showing any accident/roadworks or anything simular, which may cause it the think the road is at a stand still?

If the A road was not an option, then pass...........maybe it has intelligence to learn or something.........somewhere in the settings is preferences for routes types which may help......de-select the ones you don't want and select A-roads only and see if she picks it up Question Exclamation My Gladiators:

Imho......I have to agree with you. Satnav is good, but sometimes you have to let your own inbuilt compass do its work....and then having made the decision to temporaily ignore the nav let it catch up and sort its self out.
Having trusted your own judgement it will then find the route you really wanted to take Thumbs Up MY08 RRS TDV8 HSE, Stornoway Grey, Ebony and Zabrano, sunroof, hybrid tv, premium ICE, rear E diff, privacy glass, side steps, mud flaps, S/Grey mirror covers, Venture shield, tasmods, smoked indicators, Larini sports exhaust, etc, etc.

This is an issue with all the Satnavs I've ever had... sometimes it proves that humans will never be overtaken by computers in terms of thinking ability Wink

To get into London from where I live is quickest by using the A3 but the RRS sat nav always insists on directing me onto the M25 and up the M4 a journey that would take twice as long. RRS 2.7 TDV6 HSE Zambezi silver,Alpaca.

trying to get home from the Excel yesterday, the Treg NAV just couldn't make its mind up due to so many queue's in and around the area - also it kept on indicating me a parallel road so all the directions were useless

Had the same probs. Coming up from the south to the midlands the A34 is never given as an option though it is the quickest. Tried everything on the settings, makes no difference.
It thinks that going up m3 then m25 and m1 is the quickest.

Tom Tom rules for me!

I've used many different Sat Nav's over the years and i'm afraid to say that the LR one we have in the RRS is quite simply one of the worst when it comes to being able to find the "real" shortest or quickest route. One of the best I ever had was my old Garmin Streetpilot III. Odd that it uses the same software as the LR system but seems to get the routes correct, based on your choices, nearly every time. My LR system will offer completely different routes on the outward and return journey between the same points, even though I haven't changed any of the parameters Neutral Go figure Rolling Eyes LR/Navtech really should sort this out since the RRS is a bloomin expensive car - A 5 year old system like my Garmin or a cheapo entry level Tom Tom really shouldn't have a patch on the expensive LR system - Christ, even the LR 2008 update DVD costs more than the entire TomTom Shocked It's a big Yaboo Sucks to LR on this one Evil or Very Mad Range Rover Sport - 2.7 TDV6 HSE - Java Black - Privacy Glass - Dealer Superchipped - a set of swanky TASMOD sill plates & Body Colour Matched SC Grill & Side Vents.
